I'm looking to buy some property in Hawaii to build a small and peaceful getaway spot. This is a very new idea and I haven't even picked an island yet! I have heard from many people that the locals can be very defensive and even aggressive to non-islanders. I want a holiday home to escape stress and aggression, not to attract it so can someone please offer some tips on where is best to locate myself?

Which islands are best for a holiday home? (I don't want somewhere over run with tourists either!) And how difficult are the construction laws there? Are there many restrictions and requirements?)
